I saw tin can luminaries on Pinterest and since I am on a mission to do at least a few things that I’ve pinned, I’ve been saving my cans for this project. With the 4th of July coming up I wanted to do some patriotic luminaries and found a great tutorial on Crafts For All Seasons.
First we added water to the cans and froze them. This makes it easier to pound the holes in the cans without bending them….although we still bent a few.
I printed out clip art images and used them as templates. Then with a nail and hammer we started punching our pattern.
And if the bottom of your cans pop out from being frozen, just tap them back down with a hammer.
Then I spray painted the cans white to make it easier to paint. If you wanted them all one color, you could probably just spray paint the can and leave it at that, but we wanted to add some colors.
I think you can tell which ones L painted.
Then just add a candle. So cute. I can’t wait to light them up on July 4th!

Good for you making what you pin! I certainly don’t do that enough!! Great work pinching those holes. I prolly woulda stub my finger
Thanks! I did hit my thumb a couple of times
