Repurpose A Crib, Part 1

Old Crib to Message Center

We no longer have use for a crib in our home.  Sniff, sniff….I love babies.   The crib that we were using was actually the one that my parents bought for me about 40-something years ago.  Yes, I know that 40-something year old cribs have slats that are too wide and drop down sides, but not one baby that slept in that crib had a problem.

What To Do with An Old Crib

My First Bed

Anyway, being the sensitive, nostalgic soul that I am, I just couldn’t get rid of my very first bed.

Can’t you just picture a cute little Baby Laura B sleeping in this crib?

I had already taken off the one side before I grabbed my camera.

The mattress needed to be disposed of, but not before I wrote the names of all the sweet babies that lay their little heads on it.

All the Babies

I know…there is something wrong with me.

Crib Pieces

I now wondered what I was going to do with the remaining pieces…

Cork Board Message Center

Idea #1 to repurpose an old crib is a cork board message center.  I took one side of the crib and sawed the legs off.

Sawed Off Legs

A little sanding, couple coats of spray paint, cork and some fabric was all it took to repurpose a crib into our family’s message center.  I think it came out so cute!

    • Thanks. It wasn’t that heavy, but if someone has a crib that is heavier they would want to make sure they secure it properly to the wall. Thanks for pinning!

  1. I just saw recently where they used the crib bottom and put in a black chalk board, then put kid chairs up to it for the kids to use as an activity center.

    • I’ve also seen where they take one of the sides and painted it with chalkboard paint. There are so many things you could do!
