One of the hardest things to keep clean in my house is the shower. We have a walk in shower with the glass doors and it always looked dirty to me. With both hubby and I taking daily showers, it would get really grungy and require some heavy duty scrubbing. Not to mention it is that cheapo fiberglass shower. I had picked out a beautiful tiled shower but that is another story for another day.
I was using the store-bought daily shower cleaners but they are expensive and I don’t like to spend money I don’t have to. I just knew there was a home made version out there that would work.
It has been a long internet search for a home made daily shower spray solution that, in my opinion, worked. I’ve tried many and all fell short of my expectations.
Finally, this last magical potion of home made shower spray is the one! I love it. It does what I want it to do which is make my weekly cleaning much easier!
If you have never cleaned a free-standing shower, it is not that easy. You basically have to be prepared to take your shower at the same time. Get in, scrub it all down, then turn the water on, rinse the walls and then wash yourself.
Using this daily spray is taking the grunge factor down quite a bit. Now regular cleaning only requires a light scrubbing which I do not dread so much.
I found the basic recipe on the blog, Meet Miss Jones, and tweaked it a bit. Here is what I came up with.
Home Made Daily Shower Spray
1/2 cup rubbing alcohol
1/4 teaspoon Dawn Dishwashing Detergent (the original blue)
2 teaspoon liquid spot-free dishwasher rinse (such as Jet Dry)
1 1/2 cup water
3 drops tea tree oil*
Combine all ingredients in a spray bottle and shake. Spray this daily after your shower to make your general shower cleaning a breeze.
Also noted in Meet Miss Jones post is to use a dark colored spray bottle if possible as the hydrogen peroxide’s cleaning quality will degrade when exposed to sunlight.
*Tea tree oil has antiviral, antibacterial, anti fungal and antiseptic qualities.
