Spring break is over! Yippee! Ok, now that I got that out of the way…remember this guy:
That’s right, the diaper-wearing chihuahua. (you can read all about that here). Well, while he sits on his “royal” pillow he thinks of ways to get out of his diaper, or so I thought. Turns out he has other thoughts, too….thoughts of escape!
Oh to roam free of the diaper and relieve himself anywhere he pleases in the wild of our subdivision. Oh to be out of earshot of those young ones constantly making noise and interrupting his naps. Oh to be free of that menacing cat who stares at him with those big green eyes.
Scoobs has escaped a few times from our fenced in back yard. Each time we thought we found the means of his escape and promptly blocked it. Turns out our little chihuahua is a lot smarter than we thought. See, his escape route has been there every day, yet he doesn’t use it every day. That’s right, he only uses it occasionally so as not to arouse our suspicion.
Yesterday morning he decided to make a run for it. I went to get him out of the back yard and he was no where to be found. I grabbed a bag of treats and started walking the block looking for him. Husband K and the kids jumped in the old mini van and drove around the neighborhood. Finally he was spotted by daughter A and his evil plan to roam the bushes and grass of the street was thwarted.
But how did he get out? All escape routes have been blocked. Turns out, not all:
We have lived here for 5 years and never noticed this gap between the house and the fence post. We put him in the back yard and watched as he made his way to this little gap. Busted!
After a trip to Lowe’s Home Improvement to buy the right sized brick, hopefully his days of escape are over.
I don’t know whether to be proud that we have such a smart dog, or be embarrassed that we have been out-smarted by our dog for five years!
